Details: This weekend marks the 5th anniversary of the Flight for Freedom. In 2001, one thousand Oregonians went to New York to offer friendship in the wake of 9/11, answering Mayor Giuliani’s call for Americans to come to NYC to help rebuild the city’s torn economy.
Participants were invited to return to New York to remember the original trip and reunite with fellow travelers and participate in events in tribute to NYC and the effort of Oregonians.
New York City events include: (Friday) Welcoming reception at the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel, (Sunday) Memorial Service at Ground Zero, Service at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Devine, (Monday) Opening Bell Ringing of the New York Stock Exchange and participating in the Columbus Day Parade up 5th Avenue.
